Currency in TAHITI

Tahiti uses XPF or CPF which is South Pacific Francs. Get use to carrying 1000.00 bills and 500.00 bills.

TRAVEL TIP: If you are looking to exchange your currency Le Meridien Tahiti and Le Meridien Bora Bora can exchange most major currency at the reception and they will not charge you any commission. However, they will not exchange the south pacific francs back to your currency. Their exchange rate was better than what was being offered at Sydney Airport.

But like all major hotels all expenses can be charged to your room via your credit card, so make sure you remember your room number and get use to signing your name like a rockstar.

To give you an idea on how much things cost in Tahiti see list below (March 2007):

Cost of McDonalds Medium Meal approximately $9.00 Australian dollar (690 XPF)
Bottle of Water (500ML) from a shop is $4.00 Australian dollars (240 XPF)
Single Packet of OREO BISCUITS is $5.00 Australian dollars (350 XPF)
Buffet Dinner for Two at Le Meridien Bora Bora is approx $200.00 Australian dollars (13,000 XPF)

I also noticed in some shops they will readily accept US dollars or Euro's as payment.
